There's a lot more to this passage, so I'm going to share a few more thoughts on the scripture passage from day before yesterday.

If I were to make a list of the worst, most evil things that a person can do in this world, it would include murder, child abuse, torture and such.

But it is interesting that when the Almighty choose to make a list of seven specific sins, it is a much different list. Many of the things He listed are not things that we in America even consider wrong at all, surely not "an abomination to God". Yet this is what He wanted us to know:

  • "There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him;
  • Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
  • a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil,
  • A false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers." Proverbs 6:16-19
Wow, "hates & abomination" are very powerful adjectives! What did He deem important enough to list third? Hands that shed innocent blood. How would we define innocent? The dictionary says, "those without guilt". Clearly that would mean all killings that weren't a legal punishment for a crime that person actually committed.

Who has the undeniably most innocent blood possible? Those who have not had any opportunity to commit even one sin. The most helpless among us and the most innocent. To our shame, our great country has slaughtered over 46 million innocent souls since 1972, with the blessing of our government. That's an entire generation of Americans. One earthly consequence of this is evident in our Social Security system. We killed those who would be working and paying taxes into Social Security. Now it's well known that there won't be any Social Security for our children - they will have paid into it, but it will be gone before they ever get to collect any themselves.

Given what God said about how He feels about the shedding of innocent blood, given also that this has been done with full support and even funding from our government, what do you think God thinks about America on this issue? He promised His blessings and protection with a condition - that we follow His law, love and obey Him. When we as a country have kicked Him out of all the areas we already have, He is no longer obligated to bless or protect us at all, yet in His infinite mercy He has continued till now. This sin can be forgiven and it's scars in our lives healed, just like any other sin. He longs to free us from this pain.

Again I remind you that since God made everything that is and holds ALL power, He has the right to make all the rules. As His creation, we are fools to think that because time has passed since the Bible was put in print that we have the right to change the rules He gave us. Fools because we may live our lives according to the changes we ourselves have made to His rules, but that in no way will change His judgment in the end. We can't even make ourselves a bit taller or add an hour to our lives, and we think because we are "modern man" that we have the power and authority to change His laws? He gave us His eternal world of truth and told us clearly:

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My worlds shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35

The Word of God tells us that any sin separates us from God and this is why we need a Savior - someone to pay the price to redeem us from the penalty of our sins so we can return to God and spend eternity in heaven with Him, instead of an eternity of punishment in hell. Praise God that Jesus Christ was willing and able to do this for us and that even this sin can be forgiven! Let us be sure that we have fully repented for all the sin in our lives and asked Jesus to be our Savior before we close our eyes tonight. No one is promised tomorrow. He also commands us to be immersed in water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That is no more "optional" for us to obey than the repenting and taking Jesus as our Savior. It is a commandment. Be sure to obey this with the same urgency that you asked Jesus to save you - don't put it off.

It is my fervent prayer that every person visiting this blog will be saved.
