"Love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34,35

That is a big bill to fill! We are to love others as Jesus loves us.

  • He left His home in glory to come serve and save us.
  • He lived a life here without the comforts you and I have.
  • He taught patiently and tirelessly in love to guide us back to the Father and an abundant life.
  • He endured slander, persecution and humiliation for our sakes.
  • He gave his life for us to redeem us from the just punishment of eternity in hell.
Do we live this love for others? Is this how we live with our brethren in the body of Christ? Or do we quickly take offense when we aren't given the position of honor we want in the church? Are we too good to be the one who cleans the bathrooms and takes the trash out? Does our flesh demand the "titled" positions in leadership even though our dear Lord clearly taught us that those who would be greatest among us must be servant of all, just as the example He Himself set for us? Mark 9:35 Are we offended just because we want something our way and it isn't done? Many even leave a fellowship, harboring bitterness and unforgiveness over such shallow things as these.

Do we become offended if we aren't given public recognition and thanks for whatever we do for the fellowship? Did we do it for earthly praise? Jesus taught us that when we do things to be noticed and honored by man, we loose our heavenly reward. He told us to do our good in secret that our Father who sees in secret will reward us openly. That would be a sorry choice to choose public recognition by your church over a reward imperishable from our Lord. Matthew 6: 1-6

How do we react when a brother or sister falls? Did our dear Savior not clearly tell us that ALL sin and fall short of the glory of God and that if we say we do not sin, we make God a liar and the truth is not in us? Romans 3:23 Though He tells us that we are not to accept or tolerate the sin, we embrace the sinner and love them with the love of God that they may turn, repent and be restored to grace. We are to always treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Matthew 7:12 To our shame, the church is the only army in this world who shoots it's wounded.

How do we view a new person that is deeply entwined in this world and who heeds the drawing of the Holy Spirit and visits our fellowship? This should be a time of rejoicing! We are being given an opportunity to do the service He has commanded us to do! A soul could be saved and pass from death into life! Remember that there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who is saved than over 99 righteous men. Luke 15:7

Do we so quickly forget that with God, ANY sin is enough to separate us from God and send us to hell? We are no different than these people in God's eyes. Remember that God hates hypocrites. We share our testimony proudly of where were were when Jesus washed us from our sins and set us in the high places. We forget that this was all by grace and nothing we ourselves accomplished for us to be prideful of. We wrongly judge others. It is not our place. We are to share the love of God with them and in love, bring their wounded souls to our Lord.

It's like the song from Casting Crowns says, "Just love them like Jesus, carry them to Him, His yoke is easy, His burden is light. We don't need the answers to all of life's questions, just know that He loves them, stay by their side, and love them like Jesus."
