"Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalms 127:1-5

Let's remember to treat our children as the gifts from God that they are. When we have children, it is our responsibility to raise them. Not just feeding and housing them, but training and equipping them for life and eternity.

We do not own them like possessions. They are entrusted to us briefly and we are accountable to God for the job we do. Each of them has an eternal soul just like we do. By our parenting, we are molding their eternity, for better or for worse.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart form it." Proverbs 22:6

We do not revere them like idols to be indulged as if they knew instinctively what is best for them. We are the adults. We are in charge. Be in charge. They deserve parents who act like mature adults and skillfully guide the way for them. This gives them security and roll models worth following. They need firm boundaries in order to flourish. Be consistent.

"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; discipline will remove it far from him." Proverbs 22:15

They are precious little souls we are to guide prayerfully into maturity, fully equipped for life in this world and eternity in the next. When parents don't carefully raise their children, but let them grow up like weeds, their lives are briar fields of misery to themselves and to society, not gardens that are lovely to live in and bless those around them. We all want what's best for our children. Let's dare to stand up and be the parents God wants us to be and not fail our children.

We are to treasure them as gifts and take our stewardship of their growth seriously because we will be held accountable for the job we do.
