• "Exercise foresight and be on the watch to look [after one another], to see that no one falls back from and fails to secure God's grace (His unmerited favor and spiritual blessing), in order that no root of resentment (rancor, bitterness, or hatred) shoots forth and causes trouble and bitter torment, and the many become contaminated and defiled by it" Hebrews 12:15

We are to watch out for each other in the Body of Christ to the end of being sure we all secure God's saving grace. This is very different than critically looking for faults in others and taking pleasure in pointing them out. The first is unto life, the later unto death. The first is of God in love and the later is of the devil from sin.

Bitterness is such an insidious thing. Many sins are obvious and you KNOW when they are trying to beset you, such as stealing and murdering. But bitterness creeps in silently to encase a hurt or wrong we have received in a deadly gooey poison. We are to be on guard that we not allow this in our lives and even warned that if we do, it can contaminate and defile many others, not just ourselves.

Remember that God says if we don't forgive those who sin against us, neither will HE FORGIVE US! And we know that not one of us will make it to heaven without God's forgiveness through Christ Jesus.

• "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions." Matthew 6:14,15

Did you know that the first time God gave the people the 10 commandments it was not engraved on stone? Read Exodus 20:1-22. After He had spoken the commandments to the people this was their response. They perceived only thunder, lightning, the trumpet and the mountain smoking and they shrank back in terror.

• "All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. Then they said to Moses, 'Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.' And he continued to give Moses the commandments engraved by God's own hand on stone.

It is a very dangerous deception that most Christian churches now preach God as a happy fairy bouncing through bunny fields with a magic wand. Read His word for yourself. You alone are accountable for your soul on the Day of Judgment which we will all face. He is indeed love, but He is also a fearsome and mighty God and "it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the Living God." We are to interact with Him with reverential fear and awe.

Everyone has a past. For many of us it consists of painful memories and lots of damage. Sadly, most of us allow our past to decide our future. That is unnecessary as through Christ we are given the ability to be more than victors, to overcome and rise above. We are each writing our own life story every moment by the choices we make. Realize that you, like Paul tells us, can forget what lies behind and write a wondrous life story because of Jesus. If you have repented of your sins and taken Jesus as your Savior and been immersed in water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, then you are a New Creature and all things have been made new! You are not bound by the past, but whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
