"Your adornment must not be merely external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." 1 Peter 3:3,4

"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness." 1 Timothy 2:9,10

Wow there's a command that will get you stoned in today's society! But it doesn't change the fact that the God who made us, gives us everything we have including the breath we just took, and who will judge us when this life is over and decide where we spend eternity has commanded this of those who would be His. It's not an option. If we wear His name and hope for salvation, we MUST obey everything He says, with all our heart, not grudgingly.

This verse is often misunderstood and taught wrongly. He is not saying that we cannot dress attractively, braid our hair or wear jewelry. He is telling us that our adornment must primarily be good works and godliness. He is saying not to decorate the outside and think that makes us beautiful in God's judgment.

The command to wear "proper clothing, modestly and discreetly" is serious also. All of God's commands are for our own good. Sin brings great misery into our lives and the lives of those who love us. He is telling us how to avoid this with His commands. By dressing modestly we do not court certain kinds of sins and also do not make ourselves a target for certain kinds of crimes. And let us not forget that we, as Christians, washed clean of our sins in the blood of the Lamb, by our asking Him to save us have committed ourselves to live righteous and holy lives, imitating Him as He is holy.

Think out how your attire affects your witness for Christ. If you are dressed immodestly, if you look just like the world without morals, your light isn't shining like it should be when you share Jesus with others. He has saved us and put His precious Holy Spirit in us telling us to take the good news of salvation to a lost and dying world. We are holy vessels with a holy message to share. How does that fit with immodest dress? How does that fit with having inches of cleavage out there for the world to see? How does that fit with wearing pants so low that many inches of underwear, or worse is showing and walking around holding your private parts to keep them up? How does that fit with wearing clothes that have words and pictures that are dirty or depict vulgar, immoral or violent behaviors?

Not "costly garments" is also something to seek Him on. That means there is a limit to how much it is ok to spend for our apparel.

Today's freebie is a specially dear gift to me. Remember when we artsy people made padded fabric picture frames and decorated them with ribbons and flowers and things? This gift is half of the decoration I put on a black satin frame for a stunning photo of my youngest daughter in pink sitting against a black background with a single light illuminating the front of her looking up to the side with the face of the angel she was and has always been. She was 6 or 9 months old and it was so beautiful! There was originally dried baby's breath and tiny leaves tucked in delicately, now long gone, and the frame has faded over the years (she's the one who turned 26 on Jan. 6th), but I have restored it and made you a lovely collection of 8 variations. I know you can change colors, but this was the result of quite a few very complicated selections, so I went ahead and gave you lots of choices, including a brush and a frame! I put the color names next to the samples so you'd know which names to look for to get the ones you want. I can't wait to use the Cream one on a vintage LO!
