You Will Love This!

Please read my TERMS OF USE.

Today is part four of a topic that started with the post on the word "guidance" published on May 30th following through today. I hope you will take a moment and go back if you've missed them. This won't make much sense if you don't know what we've been discussing. They are awesome insights God has given that sure are blessing me and I believe they will you also.

As I'm still meditating on yesterday's discussion the "yoke" in yesterday's scripture and it's connection to the thoughts in the "guidance" post, something else occurs to me. God does not put His yoke on us!

If we read carefully, He describes His child coming to Him when he's overwhelmed and beaten down by this world. His instruction to help His beloved child in this painful state is, "take My yoke upon you", not that He'll thrust it on us whether we want Him to or not.

  • "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
As in all things in the Christian walk, we are still creatures with free will. Though we entered into a serious covenant with God, asking Him to forgive our sins and in exchange we took Jesus Christ as our Savior and promise to obey and live for Him always, we do not loose our ability to say no and disobey, though it is utterly against our vow. He allows us to stay faithful until death and obtain that crown of life through His grace or to walk away and leave not only our faith and vow to Him, but our salvation. Revelation 2:10 After all, a covenant is only binding as long as both parties keep their end of the agreement. When we choose to walk away, break our end of the agreement, God is no longer obliged to keep His end. If you will ... then I will...

Each time He offers us an opportunity to grow in Him, we have the ability to refuse or accept. If we sincerely gave Him our lives at our salvation experience, then there is no "no" in our heart to respond with. Even if our flesh recoils, our spirit gazes deeply into His heart of love for us and says "yes Lord" on bended knees and our flesh must obey.

So when He instructs us to take His yoke on ourselves at these worst times in life we have a choice. We can blow this amazing opportunity, this gift He is offering, to bring us into deeper intimacy in our walk with Him and more fruit in our lives by refusing His yoke. We may not actually "walk away" from our faith entirely, but we have shown ourselves and our commitment to be lacking and we will suffer the loss in our relationship with Him of what could have been, what He wanted for us for our own good. We stay stagnant and when stagnant in the Christian walk, we actually are backsliding. Think about it. You just said "no" to a command of your God...yup...that's already backsliding.

What a terrifying truth! Let's make the choice to live by faith. Believe He meant it when He promised He will cause ALL things to work together for our good if we love Him and are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 Either we have faith that He's telling the truth and we live accordingly, or we don't believe which is calling Him a liar. That's even more terrifying. We cannot loose when we choose to believe Him, obey Him and seek to be ever closer to him. Wonderful blessings are in that intimacy. Let's find out!
