WhatCanIDoWithOneLittleSnapshot? Tutorial by Lynette's Photo Art

We were blessed to get to tour a full sized replica of Moses' tabernacle today. It was so cool. Judiazing teaching is summarily condemned in the New Testament, but there are RICHES to be gained from learning as much as we can from the Old Testament about God. As I looked at the Mercy Seat I was impressed with the very fact that it is named that and how important that is.
In America today, we have become an arrogant people who have been taught for decades now that life is all about what WE want, what makes US happy. The blessing of our freedom has been perverted into self-centeredness, selfishness and a hedonistic materialistic life style. As a result, the majority of Americans have no concept of what God is or what our attitude toward Him should be. WE are the most important thing in this life. Not only do we have no idea of the proper position of our Creator in our lives, we use Him as a swear word and even jail those who read from His Holy Word out loud. (Yes, this has been happening in many parts of our country for years and is getting much worse with the new presidency.)

When Moses built the tabernacle in the desert as a meeting place for God's people to worship Him and for His very presence to inhabit, people had a much better understanding of our true position with Almighty God. They had lived through His miraculous plagues delivering them from Egyptian bondage. They had walked through the Red Sea on dry land, then watched God close the waters over Pharaoh's army. They had lived on the miraculous bread from heaven during the 40 years they wandered in the wilderness, wearing shoes that never wore out. They were there when Moses went up Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments directly from God Himself. They learned a reverential fear and awe of the Almighty that we need to return to today, or it will come as quite a shock on the day of judgment when we face Him.

It was called the Mercy Seat because God's Holy Presence dwelt there and all of mankind needs FIRST AND FOREMOST God's mercy. Those who approached the tabernacle or later the temple in those days were thinking about the Holy of Holies where the Mercy Seat was, aware of their sin and need of God's forgiveness and mercy. We need to have this reverential fear and awe of Almighty God ourselves. God has not changed no matter how sinful modern society has become and tried to tell us it doesn't matter any more. There is a judgment day coming for ALL and it's inescapable, even if you don't believe in it! God is a God of love, but He is a God of wrath too terrible to withstand also!

  • "The LORD said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you." Then Moses told the LORD what the people had said.

10 And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes 11 and be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, 'Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 He shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on him. Whether man or animal, he shall not be permitted to live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds a long blast may they go up to the mountain."

14 After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes. 15 Then he said to the people, "Prepare yourselves for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations."

16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. 17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently, 19 and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.

20 The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up 21 and the LORD said to him, "Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see the LORD and many of them perish. 22 Even the priests, who approach the LORD, must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them." Exodus 19:9-22

  • "I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today; and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I am commanding you today, by following other gods which you have not known." Deuteronomy 11:26-28
  • "When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was." Exodus 20:18-21
  • "But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light." Ephesians 5:3-13
