This video on YouTube has been so popular that Obama called him personally. He said that he was very disturbed with the video and invited him to the White House...

If we had a proper understanding of who God is, what Deity means in respect to our proper relationship with Him, things would really change in our lives and our nation. The Old Testament was fulfilled by Christ, but we are told that the Law (Old Testament) is now our tutor, to lead us to Christ and teach us of God. It's a big mistake to study the New Testament only. We'd miss so much of great importance to us as Christians today. But we need to take care that we don't become confused and nullify the work of Christ in our lives by choosing to be enslaved to the old law after Christ has fulfilled it. God forbids we put others in that bondage either.

  • "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." Galatians 3:24,25
If we look at just a handful of the laws God gave the Hebrews in reference to their interaction with Him, we come away with a new perspective on who God is and what it means to be Deity, Holy, Divine, versus human and made of dust by God Himself. Look at the severity of these penalties. Meditate a while on what this means. He's showing us who He is, what is appropriate behavior and attitudes toward Him - what He deserves and DEMANDS!

God gave Moses very detailed instructions on every aspect of the people's worship of Him. They weren't requests. They were commands with severe penalties to teach the people (and us) the difference between He and us. There were specific instructions for the fire used in worship...
  • "Nadab and Abihu, however, fell dead before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before Him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons; so only Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron." Numbers 3:4
God had solemnly warned the people that no one touch the Ark of the Covenant. They were to build it with gold rings on it through which poles would be run and man would move it by the poles only.
  • "When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God." 2 Samuel 6:6,7
Clearly, even well intentioned disobedience is unacceptable. How much more so our freely picking and choosing which of God's commands we obey and which we don't? How about us freely changing the truth of the Gospel to "make it more culturally relevant"?????

God gave an exact recipe for the incense that was to be used in the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place in worship of Him. He forbid anyone to use a similar incense for themself - again with a serious penalty for disobedience.
  • "You shall beat some of it very fine, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting where I will meet with you; it shall be most holy to you. The incense which you shall make, you shall not make in the same proportions for yourselves; it shall be holy to you for the LORD. Whoever shall make any like it, to use as perfume, shall be cut off from his people." Exodus 30:36-38
There are many more examples. He has done this out of love to help us understand who He is and how we are to revere Him. It is only when we have a proper idea of WHO He is that we can know our proper relationship with Him and be filled with the magnificence of our relationship with Him as Christians! WE URGENTLY NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS. When we do, there will no longer be...
  • I didn't come to church because I had company.
  • Show them your Christianity is REAL by not forsaking the assembling together!
  • This is your chance - bring them with you and you may help save their souls! This could be their only chance to be exposed to their living Savior. God may have had them visit you on Sunday for this very purpose! It's your chance to serve the Most High God who has saved your soul!
  • I was tired/didn't feel good, so I didn't come to church.
  • Our Savior was also tired after hours of prayer, being publicly stripped, then mercilessly beaten and flogged, being spat upon, cursed, mocked, made a public spectacle, humiliated, being hungry, not having slept at all that night, being nailed to a cross and taunted more - at least 18 hrs. and maybe more from His arrest until "it is finished"...guess we're lucky He didn't use your excuses...
  • The seats aren't comfortable; it's too hot; too cold; don't like the other people; don't like the way the preacher preaches...
  • See the last comments.
  • I was hurt by a church; by another Christian once.
  • Firstly, JESUS didn't hurt you!
  • Jesus left heaven and His rightful existence voluntarily to come and save us, all the time KNOWING everything that would happen.
  • He knew He would be betrayed by one of those closest to Him.
  • He knew the crowd who only days earlier had harolded His arrival in Jerusalem as the Messiah, would then just as passionately scream "Crucify Him!!!" The very ones He was giving His life to save put Him to death as a sinner.
  • (Jesus speaking) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." Matthew 23:37
  • I can't afford to give to the church or I'll throw in the loose change in my pockets and they/God should be grateful for it.
  • You aren't giving to "them". It is Almighty God who has given you everything you have and requires His people to support His work with a small portion of what He gives them.
  • This is to remind us that our supply comes from Him and not our paychecks as well as supporting His work.
  • You can afford to do many things you want but don't need - eat out, buy CDs, clothes, cable TV, cell phones, hobbies, vacations, and countless other things, but you "can't afford" to give at least a tenth back to the One who gives you all? Including your health and your loved ones?
  • If you have truly been convicted of your sins and taken Jesus as your Savior, you would be HONORED to be allowed to contribute to His work. Those who actually WORK at sharing the Gospel or giving financially to His work will reap souls for the Day of Judgment and eternal fruit! Sounds like something we should want in on!!!
And another thought...what about indulging yourself in the luxury of a vacation magically means you also don't need to give at least your tithe to God's work at your local fellowship? The vacation wasn't enough of a blessing? Does vacation void God's commands or the needs of His work? Would you really rather sow to your flesh and reap a mortal reward or sow to the spirit and reap an eternal reward? Enjoy your vacation, but be sure to put your offering in the plate when you get home! God is still worthy and still demands obedience even when you go enjoy a vacation.

By means of clarification...we are not under the old law and are not required to "tithe". But we are commanded to "lay by and store as we have been prospered" to support God's work. We're told the Old Testament is our tutor and if they who lived under the curse of the Law were to give a tithe of EVERYTHING plus gifts and offerings, how much more should we who live under the Law of grace want to give?
