Who do you admire and look to, wanting to be like them? Many look at athletes and revere them, wanting to be like them. Look past the fame, riches and glamor and note that the NFL is FULL of rapists, murderers, an those who commit crimes of all types on a regular basis, but they still get to stay on the teams because the public demands their sports and so the almighty dollar prevails.

Many look to TV/movie stars and Rock stars wishing they could live their lives. Yet look at history, even just the last few months. A vast number of them are drug addicts, alcoholics, divorce repeatedly, neglect their children, throw unspeakable tantrums in public, use filthy language and all manner of other miserable things. We have watched much loved stars such as Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson loose their lives to drugs and David Carradine die in a humiliating sexual perversion now made public, just in the last few months.

Models and other stars choose to dress, move and speak like prostitutes and hoodlums = criminals. "Hot" is not the same as "beautiful" or "handsome". Think about it. "Hot" in this use means sexually arousing which is appropriate only in marriage. We are admonished repeatedly to be modest in dress and behavior, not bringing shame on our Lord, our spouses, or inviting criminal attacks on ourselves. Beautiful and handsome mean pleasing to behold.

What about grace and poise? When was the last time you saw someone on your TV or movie screen or in a video and the words "grace" or "poise" came to mind? When did "sweet", "cute", "lovely" become bad things? When this world started fulfilling God's Word that:

  • "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" Isaiah 5:20
We cannot even mature in Christ without being able to discern the difference:
  • "But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil." Hebrews 5:4
Let's be careful who we emulate, especially those of us who wear the name of Christ.
  • “[Be Imitators of God]Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;” Ephesians 5:1
  • "Seek good and not evil, that you may live; And thus may the LORD God of hosts be with you." Amos 5:14
