Interesting thought on grace and works...

We can't "earn" our way to heaven, but we can earn our way to hell.

Probably doesn't need explanation, but the Word of God is clear that no man can be good enough to "earn" heaven. The only way any of us will get there is by God's grace for those found faithful in Christ Jesus and washed clean of their sins in His saving blood. Those who are faithful till death shall be saved.

On the other hand, mankind has a sinful nature and if we live past the age of accountability, we will sin. The wages of sin is death. If we choose not to repent of our sins and take Jesus as our Lord and Savior, be immersed in water baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and be filled with the Holy Spirit of God, then that choice, our choice, has "earned" us an eternity in hell.

Ironic.

It's such a no brainer! It's like Joshua said so long ago...he laid before the people life and death, then in case they didn't know which to choose, he told them - "Choose life"!

  • "See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity; in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it. But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land." Deuteronomy 30:15-20
