Today is very special for me. My oldest daughter is graduating from college today, with honors! She took several years off school, then finished her degree this last two years while working three jobs. I am so very proud of her! I pray a good job will help her pay off the enormous 20 year student loan :(. This next 28 days is huge in her life. First graduating college, then buying her first house (if the home inspection shows it's worthy), possibly starting a new job in a new field, and culminating in her birthday May 28th - and it's one of the big birthdays! Makes my head spin! So much in 28 days! Congratulations darling! I love you so and I'm soooooo proud of you!

Now for today's thoughts - God bless Keryn in Australia who so often shares something special with me that I can then share with all of you here! Here's another one with a powerful message wrapped in a cute twist - an old childrens' song:

Monday - Wash Day
Lord, help me wash away all my selfishness and vanity, so I may serve You with perfect humility through the week ahead.

Tuesday - Ironing Day
Dear Lord, help me iron out all the wrinkles of prejudice I have collected through the years so that I may see the beauty You see in others.

Wednesday - Mending Day
O God, help me mend my ways so I will not set a bad example for others, and help me mend all my relationships as every person is precious in Your holy sight.

Thursday - Cleaning Day
Lord Jesus, help me to dust out all the many faults I have been hiding in the secret corners of my heart. Grant me true repentence for every sin I've ignored in those dark corners that Your light might shine clear and brightly in my life.

Friday - Shopping Day
O God, give me the grace to shop wisely so I may purchase eternal happiness for myself and lead all others I come in contact with to it also.

Saturday - Cooking Day
Help me, my Savior, to brew a big kettle of brotherly love and serve it with the clean, sweet bread of human kindness, in Your name.

Sunday - The Lord's Day
O God, I have prepared my house for you. Please come into my heart so I may spend the day and the rest of my life in Your presence. Make me Yours indeed in every way and I shall not want any more!

Recently Susie was in touch with me asking for the Star Bright Brush that I'd given away a couple of years ago. She was the encouragement to make it into a kit and put it in the store for everyone, so you have her to thank. (You can get it here.) She made a freebie kit for everyone for Christmas using my Star Bright Brush (with my commercial use license). It was so cute I thought you might like another chance to snag it. But best of all was her post. With her permission I am posting it below for you in case you missed it. You can get her kit here. Click this image to go to the detail page where you can get my Star Bright Kit.
"'Are you part of the Inn crowd, or one of the Stable few?' Isn't that a great saying? It really makes me think. I kept thinking about it as I was making this kit...trying to picture what it was like in Bethlehem when Jesus was born.

I wonder how the Innkeeper felt when he realized Jesus was the Son of God...I believe the Innkeeper did not have any ill will or prejudice...there was simply no room. Would he have MADE room if he knew at the time the importance of that baby? But there is significance in the fact that Jesus was born in a lowly stable. Jesus lived his life humbly, and with no thought of gaining riches. May we all think of Jesus and his earthly mission while we celebrate this Christmas Season, the birth of the Savior of us all."

Many Christians no longer "going to church" because they have been hurt by another Christian or a church. Often they even blame God. The truth is that God isn't the one who hurt you. Your fellow human beings hurt you. The church is composed completely of flawed human beings just like you. People often hurt others without any intention of doing so at all. Many times we don't even know we've done it. You yourself have hurt others without meaning to. You want them to forgive you, don't you? So do they. Jesus taught us to treat others the way we want to be treated.

God commands us to forgive others their trespasses against us. What is it about being hurt by another Christian that voids that command? Did He say we were to forgive only those outside His body? No. He commands us to do good first to the body of Christ, and then to the world. It was a blanket commandment for how we are to live our lives, in constant forgiveness just as Christ forgave us on the cross. Is your grievance really worse than that Christ suffered on the cross?

When teaching His apostles how to pray, He deemed it important enough to put right at the beginning of the prayer that God will forgive us our sins just as we forgive others their sins against us. Clearly, if we don't forgive others, then God does not forgive us and we don't make it to heaven.

What about getting our feelings hurt voids God's commandment to gather with the brethren and worship on the Lord's day and to be in submission to church leadership which means we also gather whenever they decide to have services in addition to the Lord's day. He commanded this for our good, teaching us that the enemy can so much more easily pick us off when we are alone.

The truth is that when we hug our hurts to ourselves and withdraw from church, we are listening to the devil and doing exactly what he wants. We are cutting our own noses off despite our faces. And the truth is also that you are nothing special - we've all been hurt by other Christians and by churches. So what. Grow up, pick up your cross and follow Jesus. It isn't about our petty feelings. Thank God that Jesus didn't live like that or we'd still have no way to avoid an eternity in hell. We are told to conform our lives to that of Christ and He modeled a lifestyle of forgiveness. We must also. And it's a much happier way to live than in bitter unforgiveness. I'm sorry you have been hurt. I apologize for whoever hurt you. Please come back. We need you - and you need us.

Contrary to current American ideology, too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

The Christian life is about balance and freedom. When we continually go overboard, even in a good thing like service, we are out of balance and in danger of being in bondage/slavery. The Bible says that whatever we spend our time on, we are slaves to that.

  • "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

If you look at the prayers in the Bible, they start with acknowledging who God is.

  • "Our Father who is in heaven, holy is Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" ... then requests. Matthew 6:9
This helps us understand who He is in relation to us. It helps us have the proper attitude when praying. It also helps us see our requests in their proper perspective.

Prayers in the Bible are largely composed of proclaiming God's attributes, praising Him and thanking Him...very little is "us". It might do us well to follow the Bible model in prayer.
  • "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

My dear friend in the Lord, Cherie, sent this to me. I hope it blesses you:

"There is a place in the countryside with a field that has two horses in it. From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.... Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing. If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow. As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, And that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk
to where the other horse is, Trusting that he will not be led astray.. When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way..... Good friends are like that... You may not always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours. And remember... be kinder than necessary-
Everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly...... leave the rest to God.

Thanks Sandi for sharing this lovely layout you made using my Template 1 and the word art I made from my Glass Tile Alpha:

One argument the devil gives us to keep us from sharing God's Word is: You are a hypocrite if you tell others what the Bible says to do and you aren't fully successful in that area yourself. We all know God hates hypocrites, so we'd better just be quiet.

Christianity is a journey. We are each at different points in our journey of maturing in Christ and submitting to being conformed to His image. He works with each of us on one thing at a time, so we are all clearly at different places.

If we were to wait till we were perfect in something before we shared what God says about it, there would be no teaching at all as not one of us will be perfected until we are changed in the twinkling of an eye and caught up in the air ever to be with our Lord.

Remember - if we don't proclaim God, even the rocks will cry out!

  • "And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!" Luke 19:39, 40

People like to say they are "works in progress", but often they are using this as an excuse to live as they wish instead of conforming to God's commands.

We are only "works in progress" if we are doing our best to live by God's Word in the Bible and are cooperating with the Holy Spirit as He labors to bring forth fruit in our lives.

If you are sinning and instead of trying to stop, with God's help, you are telling everyone you are a work in progress, you are fooling yourself. You are not fooling God.

It's important to know the meaning of the words we use.

An example: It's trendy to say "namaste". It's been on the hit TV show "Lost", the movie "Merry Madagascar" and more. Do you know what it actually means? It means "I bow to the God inside you". Given that the Bible clearly tells us that narrow is the way to salvation and few there are that find it, we know that most of the people we encounter do NOT have the Lord God Almighty living in them. Everyone is serving someone. It is not possible to serve "no one". We either consciously serve the Lord God or by default, we serve satan. When we give our lives to God by taking Jesus Christ as our Savior, He moves us out of the dominion of satan into the kingdom of light. If we were to address someone with the greeting "namaste" and they had any other than the Lord God Almighty living in them, we have just worshiped a false god which is very serious spiritually even if we are ignorant of such things. Even the term "namaste" shows the truth that we all have a "god" in us, either the only real living God or a false god.

NOTE TO EVERYONE:
Some of you have said that it's difficult to see the link at the bottom of each post where you can add comments. And be sure to drop by Allie's blog as it's THE PLACE for the coolest designs to customize your blog!

This was written by Pastor Ken Keith:

I do not believe we can listen to the teaching of Jesus without being confronted with choices about the nature and presence of God, the nature of reality, the value of Jesus and the good news of the Gospel. The Gospel is an announcement, but to believe it is to choose and decide, as well as to believe and trust.

It's a challenge isn't it? Because the teaching demands a choice and choices usually demand a change. And face it, most of us do not like change. But what else is there?
