Paper Flowers for Banner 8 freebie

It's time to change our very large welcome banner in the fellowship area at church to a spring/summer theme. Pastor Ken and I have been working hard (and spending a fortune) planning a very special event for April 22nd as a community outreach. We are having a night of teaching about the Passover as it reveals Jesus Christ to us. We are going to have the Passover/Seder dinner along with the teaching so that everyone can experience this amazing insight that every Christian should have. You'll never see the Lord's Supper/Communion the same!
Given that we hope to have lots of visitors, I wanted the new welcome banner to be very bright and cheerful - flowers seemed the thing for spring and summer. I didn't want to paint again. It just didn't see special enough, so I've been designing and making all manner of paper flowers - 27 different blossoms in all. My table was a mountain of lovely blossoms - so happy to look at and that's not even all of them! I thought you might like to know how to make some of them, so for 27 days I'll be posting a tutorial for one of these lovely blossoms!
I adore this little flower! I had leftover pieces from another flower I'd made and in using them up this little beauty was born! I can't wait to make more! Start by cutting a length of tissue paper and cut it into eight short pieces of the same length.Put a dot of low melt glue in the center of one end of each petal. Bring both outer corners to the center and pinch in the glue, then pinch the end together tightly as shown. It makes sort of a round hollow petal.

The center is a used, washed out plastic communion cup.

Cut a page of an old book just a bit wider than the cup and cut narrow slits down the length of it. Run a bead of low melt glue along the bottom edge of the cup and attach the shredded paper to it.

Glue each petal to the bottom of this cup working your way around till all eight petals are attached.

The center of the cup will be transparent. Cut a small piece of paper and glue to the back so it won't be transparent. If you like it well enough to download, please leave me a comment at the bottom of this post as I have disabled 4shared comments.
