Paper Flowers for Banner 22 freebie

It's time to change our very large welcome banner in the fellowship area at church to a spring/summer theme. Pastor Ken and I have been working hard (and spending a fortune) planning a very special event for April 22nd as a community outreach. We are having a night of teaching about the Passover as it reveals Jesus Christ to us. We are going to have the Passover/Seder dinner along with the teaching so that everyone can experience this amazing insight that every Christian should have. You'll never see the Lord's Supper/Communion the same!
Given that we hope to have lots of visitors, I wanted the new welcome banner to be very bright and cheerful - flowers seemed the thing for spring and summer. I didn't want to paint again. It just didn't see special enough, so I've been designing and making all manner of paper flowers - 27 different blossoms in all. My table was a mountain of lovely blossoms - so happy to look at and that's not even all of them! I thought you might like to know how to make some of them, so for 27 days I'll be posting a tutorial for one of these lovely blossoms!
This flower starts by cutting a long, narrow strip of paper from the page of a book and then making narrow cuts along the length of it.
Using low melt glue to secure as you go, start finger gathering and pinching the base together as you gather the length of the strip around and around itself until you've used it all up.

Cut another long strip a little wider than the first and make narrow cuts along it's length like you did before. Attach the end of this strip to the base you already have and then do the same with this strip - finger gather as you wrap it around the base, securing with low melt glue as you go until you use it all up.

Now cut two lengths of tissue paper as half as wide as you want your flower to be. This will be wider than your last strip. Cut scallops at the ends.

Put a dot of low melt glue on the edge of one side of a petal and stick them together forming a pleat in the center of the petal.Do each petal this way on both strips of petals.Take the petals and gather them tightly as you glue to the edge of the center piece making sure that the pleats in the petals face the back and the proper side faces the front of the flower.Spread the petals out and mash the center strips a little for character and here's your lovely flower!
