Awesome T-shirt Scarf & Feather Paper1 Freebie

I saw this wonderful tutorial on CraftCrave (thank you Maria!) by www.theDIYdish.com that shows you how to take old t-shirts and make four beautiful styles of scarves from them. I just had to make one for my daughters! My favorite of the styles is the ruffly one that hangs really long - can you tell? :)

I started looking. I knew I wanted a happy pop of color for these dreary last weeks of winter. First I fell in love with this absolutely gorgeous $4.99 flower at Michael's on 40% off sale. Sadly my photo doesn't begin to accurately depict the beauty of this flower. Then I searched for a t-shirt of a color that would compliment it. I found a 5x t-shirt at Walmart for $6. The tutorial said XL or XXL is large enough to make this scarf, but I found that I had to get creative even with the 5X to get all 12 9" circles for this style, but it's fine. The fabric glue was $4.99 and I had a 40% off coupon. It was super easy to make. The hard part is letting the glue cure for 24 hrs.!

Now it was time to make my beautiful flower functional. I heated my glue gun and was delighted to find that every petal was already perfectly glued! I trimmed the plastic piece off the back. Then I went in search of hardware to attach it with. I feel silly now. I kept going back and forth between wanting a way to pin it to the scarf (or jacket or purse, etc.) and also to be able to use it in hair etc. A wonderful lady at Hobby Lobby suggested looking at the flowers they were selling for this purpose and voila! The geniuses had attached pins AND clips! And they just glued them to the back of the flower, then opened both fasteners and glued fabric over it to hide it all. I used an extra leaf to cover mine as there were some left after I used some for my pin. The pins were $2.99 for 20 on half off sale and the clips were 5 for $2.99, also on half off.

All told, I spent $10.36 on this scarf plus the $3.23 for the glue (I divided the fasteners price by 5 as you can make 5 flower pin/clips without buying more). If you use a shirt you already have that saves $6.48. It's a fun project and I can just see it on her with her very long dark brown hair and her sparkling eyes and warm smile! I plan to make a black or white one for my oldest daughter as she has more classic tastes in clothes.

You can tell from the graphics I design that I'm not the "clean & simple" type person...and looking at this picture I can see something dangling from that flower...thin ribbons? Maybe, but something totally unexpected and off beat sounds better... :)
Today I'm giving you an exquisite paper of feathers! I can't wait to use this one! Isn't it astounding how God has absolutely FILLED this earth with beauty for those who will notice it? Grab it while you can and enjoy!

Oak Leaf Paper 2 Freebie

Today's freebie is food for thought. We all love the first baby leaves of spring, bright and full of promise. Then they change into the stable green backdrop of summer, humbly yielding the spotlight to all the beautiful flowers. Next they turn rich fall colors to rival even the flowers of summer. Finally they fall to the ground, crunchy under foot, smelling warm and wonderful, strewn with acorns, sweetgum balls and pine cones.

Each stage has it's own charm, beauty and use. Even the last...see the lovely paper I've giving you today? (The second paper of two.) Human beings are the same. Each age we pass through during our journey on this earth has it's own charm and beauty. We are useful in different ways at different stages of life. None is worthless. None is devoid of beauty. It's up to each of us to discover it's treasures, for us personally and for society. This is why God teaches us to honor our elders, a thing we Americans are not doing.

Vampires & Oak Leaf Paper 1 Freebie

In recent years vampire books, TV shows and movies have become wildly popular. As Christians we have asked God to save our souls through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross on our behalf. We have willingly given our lives to Him and been bought with the price of Christ's blood. We are no longer our own, but His and we have entered a solemn and holy covenant with Him to love and obey Him in all things. Therefore, it's important that we know what He requires of us! We can't be obedient and pleasing to Him if we don't know. Here are some things to consider:

-In Leviticus 17:10-16 God forbids any of His people or even those strangers who travel among them to eat blood. Even to eat an animal that has died or been torn by another made the person ceremonially unclean before God.

"And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood. So when any man from the sons of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth. For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, 'You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off."

"When any person eats an animal which dies or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or an alien, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean. But if he does not wash them or bathe his body, then he shall bear his guilt."

"You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor practice divination or soothsaying." Leviticus 19:26 That means any kind of witchcraft or fortune telling.

There is a definite spiritual element to the vampire culture.

"Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God." Leviticus 19:31

"As for the person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people." Leviticus 20:6

- That was a rule for the God's people, the Hebrews, under the old covenant. We don't live under those rules, but are under the new covenant through the blood of Christ. In Acts 15 the new Christian church was addressing the issue of what to require of those outside the Jewish faith who became Christians. The Holy Spirit of God said this through the apostles in verse 28 & 29:

"For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well."

-In Exodus 20 God gives Moses His commandments. Verses 1-6 all apply to the vampire craze:

"Then God spoke all these words, saying, I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments."

The vampire culture has people surrendering their lives/souls to a vampire, allowing him to control them and their eternities. They serve the vampire by doing his bidding even to the point of killing other people.

-Luke 6:31 "Treat others the same way you want them to treat you." Would you want others to kill you or your loved ones? Or to doom your/their soul to the eternal hell of a vampire?

-John 15:13, Matthew 22:37-39 says, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."

It is argued that the vampire craze is only fantasy and is harmless entertainment. God said we are to love and serve Him ONLY and with all our HEART, SOUL, MIND and STRENGTH. Mark 12:30. Our thoughts and actions are all to be consecrated to Him, not just dressing up and warming a bench at church for an hour one day a week. He said, "what fellowship does light have with darkness?"

"Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14

We cannot live "on the fence", counting on salvation from God while living in rebellion to His commands and expect to be saved in the end.

"For I am the LORD your God Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. " Leviticus 11:44

"And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘ worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.’” Luke 4:8; Matthew 4:10

"You shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images 14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), 15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods" Exodus 34:13-15

Today I have the first of two wonderful Oak Leaf Papers to scrap all your fall memories with. Enjoy!

Burning Bush Paper Freebie looks like rose petals!

It's important that we try to comprehend the holiness of God that we might revere Him properly and that the awe and fear of Him help us to obey Him. He has told us that the Old Testament is to be a "schoolmaster" for those of us living in the Christian dispensation. There is so much for us to learn there. Here's another interesting fact:

We know that when God had Moses make the tabernacle (tent His presence would dwell in with His chosen people, the Hebrews), that He was extremely specific as to every aspect of it's design, construction, and the procedure of dedicating it and those who would serve Him in it before it was used. It makes sense that there would be continual sacrifices required on behalf of the sinfulness of the people. It makes sense that the High Priest would have to sacrifice for his own sins and that of his household to be forgiven before he served God each time. We are all human and we know how sinful we are.

But here's a deeper fact: God required sacrifices every year to make atonement for the holy place, the tent of meeting and the alter itself...because they "abide with them in the midst of their impurities"! He's saying that even though the tabernacle and all that was in it was made to His holy specifications, was atoned for before they were initially used, that just because they existed in the midst of the sinful people, they were defiled and had to be atoned for again before the High Priest could serve God in the Holy of Holies, before the mercy seat! Inanimate things became defiled simply by existing amongst sinful human beings (which we all are). Wow! That gives one pause! Look at the sinful condition of our society today...

When He was preparing them to enter the Promised Land and posses it, He explained that the people living there were so sinful that even the land was rejecting them, spitting them out. Again, inanimate things responding to sin.

He commands us, "For I am the LORD your God Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy." Leviticus 11:44

"He shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the impurities of the sons of Israel and because of their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and thus he shall do for the tent of meeting which abides with them in the midst of their impurities. When he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, no one shall be in the tent of meeting until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself and for his household and for all the assembly of Israel. Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and of the blood of the goat and put it on the horns of the altar on all sides. With his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times and cleanse it, and from the impurities of the sons of Israel consecrate it. When he finishes atoning for the holy place and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall offer the live goat. Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and he shall lay them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who stands in readiness. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a solitary land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. Then Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting and take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there. He shall bathe his body with water in a holy place and put on his clothes, and come forth and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people and make atonement for himself and for the people." Leviticus 16:16-24

Leviticus 16:29-34

I thought it fitting that today's gift for you be this gorgeous Burning Bush Paper. In the fall the leaves turn amazing reds and pinks and when the sun shines through them...ohhhh! Easy to see why they named it for the bush Almighty God appeared to Moses in. I recently gave you a box template I made using this paper. I think it looks like rose petals. You can still snag that goodie here. The blank template is still available here.

My Book In Shutterfly Video by Lynette's Photo Art

This post has been a LONG time in the making. Early last May I was contacted by Shutterfly requesting permission to use one of my books in a video they were making that would be shown internally, on their website, on YouTube, and more. It is quite an honor. Out of all the books that pass through there, they chose a book I made almost three years earlier and hadn't yet published yet.

For eight years (the first five years almost exclusively) I worked on an ancestry book for my daughters, siblings, nieces and nephews. It includes every photo I could get ahold of from before I was grown and many items that belonged to the people in the pictures and items from their era and what they did in their lives to give a sense of what life was like then. Given that they don't publish books larger than 101 pages, it was quite a feat fitting it all in and sadly it didn't leave space for stories. I left several pages at the end with only a background paper on them so my daughters could add their own pictures as they marry and have children and then those after them - to keep the book up to date. I guess that's the ultimate hybrid project - starting 100% digital then the last pages being physically paper scrapped!

I have added a pedigree chart for both my side and their father's side of the family. My side was traced back to an unbelievable 300 BC by my oldest half-sister on Ancestry.com. Now we finally have a printed record of how we are related to Benjamin Franklin. Grandma Faye would have loved seeing the exact line.

My husband's line was a nightmare. I was honored to be given every piece of ancestral info his side had by my ex-sister-in-law and spent countless miserable hours disciphering things and compiling the pedigree chart myself, scanning every image so everyone interested could have complete copies, improving those images as best I could though they were all xeroxes of copies of badly messed up old pictures and documents. Not many pixels to work with. Then I made two more pages in the book collaging all the new pictures from their father's side that I hadn't had before. Glad that's done! I made all of that downloadable for everyone on his side that wants copies of it all.

I finally finished!! Can you imagine having every image in one book, restored and in order with names and dates? No more boxes of loose photos from yesteryear without names, damaged and everyone's connection unclear? It's been the biggest accomplishment of my life and I hope it will bless the rest of the family too.

I attached CD pockets to the inner back of each book and included two CDs - one of all the raw scanned images and one of all the pages to the book so it could be ordered anywhere in the future. (I learned early in PS that you always save the originals/scans as you are continually learning and improving your skills and this way you can go back and make a new edit from the originals without the jpg issues of re-saving repeatedly and deteriorating quality.)

When they contacted me in May, it turns out they had already made the video using my book. The final part of our arrangement was to send me the link to the video on YouTube to share with all of you here and that's why I've been waiting to write this post. :( They did send me a dvd of the video, but in the end they decided it revealed too much about the innerworkings of Shutterfly and decided not to make it public. Out of respect for them, I won't upload my copy of it, but I sure was proud of this honor and wish I could share it with you. Oh well!

UPDATE: I have been asked to show my book here, so please click here to see pictures of some of the pages and read helpful information on how to go about such a daunting project.

For today's gift, I'm going to offer my 10 commandments book again as it was quite popular and I don't want anyone to miss it. Have the children write a way each commandment applies to their life as a child on the blank page. Then have them cut the tablets out. To make the book they will fold each in half on the center line, then glue stick the back of the blank side of Commandment 1 to the back of the printed side of Commandment 2 and so on. Then cut the cover out and fold on the center line. Glue to the book. Or you could trace the tablet shape a little bit larger on black construction paper and have them cut it out and glue it to on to be the covers and write "Ten Commandments" on the front with a metallic silver marker. This will help the commands be personal and memorable to them. Remember to have fun doing it!

Snow Paper Freebie

Interesting fact - Think back to when God delivered His people from Egyptian slavery through the mighty plagues, each designed to show the Egyptians that they were believing in false Gods and that God Almighty was the only real god. As they left Egypt, God went before them in a pillar of cloud during the day and at night there was fire in the cloud and so He lead them. We remember that when Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army after them that the cloud/fire moved behind God's people to prevent them from drawing near His people. But did you realize that God continued leading His people by His presence among them in this cloud during all their journeys? And when God had told Moses how to construct the tabernacle and it was completed and consecrated as He commanded that He filled the tabernacle with His presence to such a degree that even Moses couldn't enter? Way cool. Read this passage from Exodus 40:

"Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Throughout all their journeys whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel. Exodus 40:34-38

Another interesting fact - it was this long since they left Egypt when the tabernacle was first erected: "Now in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected." Exodus 40:17

Today's gift for you is this sparkly Snow Paper. Enjoy!

Something to think about -

"Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you will not die--it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations-- and so as to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean". Leviticus 10:9, 10

Here God was instructing Aaron and his sons how to serve Him in the tabernacle. Yes, it does tell them not to drink wine or strong drink, but it's the reason He told them this that applies to us today. It was "to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, between the unclean and the clean".

Not long ago it was universally understood that those who wore the name of Christ, Christian, did not drink alcohol. Today in many, many churches it has become quite a non-issue with Christians drinking alcoholic beverages with meals, even in public, unapologetically. They even buy alcohol in stores, being seen by the world doing so.

It used to be that the fact that drinking alcohol could compromise our witness to the lost was enough to make Christians abstain. The chance a soul could be lost eternally as they look at us and don't see a difference, so why would they want to come to Jesus, was enough. Not today. Yet we are warned that if we cause even one to stumble, it would be better for us to have a milestone tied around our necks and cast into the sea.

We are warned not to use our freedom in Christ as a license to sin, just because we have grace. This passage clearly tells us that the reason God told Aaron and his sons not to drink wine or strong drink was to distinguish "between the holy and the profane, between the unclean and the clean". Profane and unclean sounds like sin to me. We are to be set apart from the world. We are commanded not to be conformed to this world. A holy priesthood - all Christians, a holy nation unto God.

We are told repeatedly to prefer the welfare of others over our own. Is that what we are doing when we argue that in the New Testament we are only forbidden to be "drunk" and selfishly cling to our "freedom" as permission to drink alcohol? Paul said though he had freedom in Christ to do certain things, he never would if it would cause someone to stumble.

We all know that alcoholism is rampant. We know it destroys our bodies which are the temples of the Holy Spirit of God and we are forbidden to harm our bodies. We know it destroys families and lives. We know it leads to all manner of sinful behaviors. We also know that no one knows they will become an alcoholic before it happens. We all know that if we never take that first drink, it is impossible to become an alcoholic.

Do you think it is pleasing to God when we claim our right to drink alcohol and do so, even in public in front of those who are not yet saved, but know we are Christians? Is this glorifying God? Is this loving our neighbor as ourself? Is it living out a life of crucifying our fleshly desires in His service since we have been bought with the price of His very life and are no longer our own, but His servants?

Today I have this marvelous pinwheel for you to help with the winter blues and remember spring is just around the corner! Enjoy!

3.5x5" Box Template Freebie

I have often shared things God has taught me through my little Boo (our 4.5 lb. dog), and today I have another. We keep the house very cold during the winter and hot in the summer to keep the bills down. So in the cold months, I am dressed like an Eskimo in the house and there are blankets covering the sofa for watching TV. LOL we don't even refrigerate V8 because the cans are as cold as you can drink already at room temperature. On top of all the layers I wear, my coat and gloves with the thumb and pointer fingers open so I can type, and sometimes even a hat, I'm also wrapped in a blanket as I work here at the computer most of the day, and baby Boo is snuggled warm and happy inside my coat. It works very well for both of us. I get to hold and love her all the time :) and she stays warm.

Today she got upset with me because I didn't share as much of my meal with her as she wanted and she was sitting on her kennel next to me here pouting and shaking like a leaf. She'd hopped out of my coat hoping another approach to begging would reap greater benefits and she'd gotten cold. She was upset enough with me that she refused my invitation to return to her toasty spot in my coat.

Our Father showed me that He longs for us to stay right there in His arms always, safe and warm, but we insist on going out on our own, trying to do things our way instead of following His laws which are designed for our best good, out of His love for us, to bless us. We remove ourselves from intimacy with Him where all our needs are met and we start suffering, yet we resist returning to His ways and intimacy with Him. We want to do things our way. Everything we need is in Him, yet we shiver in misery on our own while His love beckons us to return.

Now for your goodies. I made a set of my marble conversation hearts and photos of our family (like I showed you here) for each of my daughters. One daughter is here, but I needed to send one set to my daughter across country. The only box I had was a small priority box from the post office. Necessity is the mother of invention they say...

The marbles were heavy, but didn't take up much room, even wrapped in pink bubble wrap. So I phoned the post office and found out the smallest box we can send is 3.5 x5". They said the thickness didn't matter. Ok, so I measured it out on the box form and cut the entire right side off. Then I lined up the part I cut off along the line I'd drawn for the new side of the box and I traced the cut off piece onto the remaining large piece to duplicate how I should cut it out to still make a sturdy, perfectly closing box just like it was to begin with. I cut it out just like the other side, scored the new folds and voila! It was perfect...except the change in size messed up the print on the box and now it was unusable.

Well, after so many years of sending packages I found out a few months ago that you can cover the outside of your boxes any way you want, as long as you leave the address and postage areas blank. Yeah!!!!! Not wanting to waste the box, I scanned my newly cut template. It takes two pieces of regular paper to cover this template. I made the scans into two templates and designed this beautiful box! I only put design on the panels that would show when the box is assembled to save ink.

I cut them out and glue-sticked them to the box. Tacky glue would make the paper wet and soft and it would "bruise" easily. Due to the fact I can't make my printer print to the very edge of the paper, there were white borders around the pages. It shows on the far right side below. There is enough on the overlapping piece to cut off there and glue over the white just fine. Then I assembled it as you would the original box. It was soooo cute! And it's sturdy. I've just got to think that anyone would prefer getting this pretty box to a plain one. She'll enjoy knowing that I actually remember the vintage valentines on the back panel! I wrote a personal message by hand on the journal tag on the back panel, taped it tightly shut and it's on it's way to her! It was so much cuter with both addresses showing, but safety first... Hawaiian Stationary Freebie

Here's a design I just made of baby Boo sleeping in my coat while I work here. Such a blessing!Hearts by AnnaBV Designs; mask by Tiff of Weeds & Wildflowers Design.

Valentine's Day is all about love. God Himself is love. In His love for us, He gave us rules, commandments, not suggestions, for how to live so life would be good and happy for us. In our society today people have left God's laws and they are reaping the horrendous consequences in not only their lives, but the lives of all those who love them. Worst of all, innocent children. When the bloom of love dims, we just change partners, always seeking that rush of being "in love". But that stage was always to be temporary and we were to move into more genuine love, the love that endures all and lasts forever. The love that builds and sustains the family unit. In fleshly selfishness we have sacrificed our families welfare for that fleeting "feeling".

Not only did God forbid adultery, which is sex of any kind with anyone you are not married to, but He gave us examples of just how seriously He regards this subject. He knew the carnage it would cause in our lives, and so it is happening.

In Genesis 20:1-18 God tells us of Abraham traveling to another country and fearing the king would kill him and take his wife for his own as she was very beautiful. So he lied and said she was his sister. God considers adultery so serious, even when one doesn't know the other is married and marries her himself, that He was going to kill that king and "all who are yours" in verse 7. He calls it a great sin in verse 9. It was such a great sin that God caused the king's wife and all his maids to be barren until he returned Sarah and Abraham prayed for them.

In Genesis 26 starting in verse 7, Abraham's son Isaac was traveling to the land of the Philistines. He feared that king Abimelech would kill him because his wife was so beautiful and then take her for himself. So he lied to the king saying that Rebekah was his sister. When the king (who was not even a follower of God Almighty) discovered Rebekah was Isaac's wife this is what he said:

"What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us." Then he decreed that anyone touching Isaac or Rebekah would be put to death.

This pagan king knew this was evil and that this sin committed by one of his nation would bring guilt on all of them and took these drastic measures to prevent it. That was dealing with only one adultery...what about an entire nation of them?

Today's gift for you is a beautiful Hawaiian stationary. You might remember our dear friend Conrad (who was Hawaiian) who passed on recently. His 50th birthday would have been a couple of days ago. His family asked all who loved him to write their favorite memory of him and they made them into a memorial book. Isn't that a fabulous idea? I made this stationary to write our memories on. It's 8.5 x11, normal paper, to print on your computer. Hope you enjoy it. His free kit, Conrad's Hawaii, is still available here.

Marble Conversation Hearts Freebie

I saw this idea on another blog, but I don't know which now, sorry. I LOVE this idea and finally got my marbles yesterday. I'm planning to make lots and sprinkle them on the tables at our church Valentine's Day fellowship meal Sunday. The woman who thought this up hand wrote her messages and they looked fabulous! I tried...not so fabulous. The only pretty paper I had was tissue, and I had a rainbow of perfect colors. You know even the finest Sharpie marker would wick horribly on it. :( So I tried the only scrapping paper I had...really boring for this project and I didn't like my handwriting. So, to PhotoShop I went!
To minimize how much ink I used on my printer, I set up a grid and built my "paper" and added text in Pea Summer Funkiness. There are 16 different messages in 8 different colors. I took the colors from the yummy pedestal I made to put my food on (get directions from yesterday's post). And as always, when I have done the work, I share with you! So today's freebie is the file so you can print the backgrounds and make your own lickety split!

Note - I found the marbles in a large size and the regular size. I got the regular. So if you are going to use my gift today, you need the regular size marbles or you'll have to enlarge my file to fit your larger marbles.

Another note - when they are dry you can hot glue magnets to the backs to make them into magnets. I'm making some magnets and some just to scatter on the table.

The original directions said to trace the marble, cut, etc. I started that way and quickly saw that the quickest and easiest way was to just print the sheet, lay it on the table, paint some Glossy ModPodge on each saying in a row, then go back and smoosh a marble onto it, center it and go on to the next. When almost dry I roughly cut them into squares then carefully trimmed as close to the marble as I could with my scissors. I like doing it before it's all the way dry because any tiny imperfections in the cutting easily disappear as you press the edge with your fingers. Perfect! And so quick and easy!
If you want different colors you can just magic wand select a square and fill the layer above it with your new color and set it's blending mode to multiply or screen as suits you. Flatten your project and print. You could even use the file I'm giving you and desaturate and lighten it with a hue & sat adjustment layer for more of a pastel look.

Then it got way cooler as I used the file I'm giving you today as a clipping mask and made some with pictures of loved ones... :) Ohhh what great magnets these make, and I'm wondering why not glue a jewelry "beaver" to the back to make one into a pendant and wear it as a necklace!!!! I utterly adore the sets of marbles now...I'm mixing a complete set of the 16 conversation hearts messages with a collection of photos of loved ones appropriate for each person I'm giving them to this Valentine's Day. Very happy now!

Fun Pedistals and Valentine Freebie 2

I saw this great idea of taking the adorable melmane plates from Target and gluing them to inverted glasses, crystal candlesticks and such to make pedestals for serving food or raised candy dishes at Crafting Chicks. I LOVE the idea and today I got to visit my local Target. I love how the plate looks on top of the matching bowl. It's actually so much cuter than this picture makes it look.
But I got to thinking of how much space it would take to store...space I don't have. Just sitting the plate on there wasn't good enough as it would move when people removed food from it. I decided to join them with Plasti-tac, you know, one of those things that look sort of like chewed chewing gum that you stretch and stretch till it gets sticky. (Available at WalMart, office supply stores and everywhere else on earth :) It leaves no reside and I've used it forever as a non-destructive way to put things on my walls. I put it around the rim of the bowl, then centered it on the plate and pushed down, twisting a little to seal it good. I turned it upside down so you can see the Plasti-tac:
Now it's secure enough to move even by holding just the plate, but as soon as I'm done using it I can easily separate them, save the Plasti-tac, wash the dishes and store normally! Voila!!! This way you could mix and match tops and bottoms to suit each situation...that's SO EXCITING!!! And it only cost me $4.08 including tax! (The plate was $1.99 and the bowl $1.79.) The adorable matching plastic heart boxes were 8 for $1 at Target too. I filled them with conversation hearts they had on sale for $2 and decorated them with glitter foam hearts I already had. So the goodies only cost $4.23!

Hmmmm, now what shall I make to go on it for this Valentine's fellowship dinner at church? Mmmmm :)
The trays are on trial, but I'm pretty excited about the possibility. My husband and I, like so many, now eat dinner on the sofa in front of the TV since the children have grown and gone. I still keep the table fully dressed as it makes me happy to see it and makes the room soooo beautiful, but we only use it when we have company. I didn't plan it this way, it just happened.

It takes me LOTS of trips from the kitchen to get everything out there to eat and some is in our laps, some on the coffee table, some on empty popcorn cans I painted to match the sofa and we use as end tables (perfect for the glasses). This last year it's gotten very painful to do this, sooooo the brainstorm was the idea that these trays are large enough to put all his stuff on one and carry it to him and then only one more trip for mine!!!! They balance well on your lap with all your stuff all together instead of strewn about and when we are done, I can stack everything on top of one and bring EVERYTHING back to the kitchen IN ONE TRIP!!!! (The trays stack together nicely.) Oh I'm hoping this works.
And I had one other idea...I'm not going to always want the pink design. They sold solid colored trays just like this, but they were $3 more a piece! I decided to kill two birds with one stone and got a small roll of that wonderful white plastic shelf liner and cut to fit inside the trays. It makes it non-slip which should significantly help the carrying part and it will easily lift out for cleaning. :) A very satisfying day!
Happy Valentines Day! Now to what matters - Our minds turn to thoughts of love and romance and maybe that "special" gift from our certain someone. Our dreams are so glorious! Most of us spend most of our Valentine's Days really let down because life just doesn't always work out the way we wish it would. As long as our dreams of love and romance depend on another person's participation, we can pretty well figure we are going to be let down most of the time, because - we are all just human.

Have you ever considered that you might be looking for love and romance in the wrong place? How about if there were a completely risk free way to have our dreams of loving another and being loved in return come true - forever?! No need to fear rejection or that we will be let down or taken advantage of.

There is one who declared His love for you before He even created the world you are living in. He actually fashioned this entire world just to give to you, that you might have all you need. He didn't buy you a bouquet of flowers that soon die, He filled the world with countless varieties of them in a never ending supply for you! He didn't write you a sonnet that lasts for a few minutes, He filled nature with the music of birds songs and flowing waters - for you! He didn't buy you a dinner and a box of candy, but filled the world with good things to eat - for you! He didn't paint a painting for you, He has painted the skies every morning and every night since your birth, to give you pleasure! He didn't give you a puppy with a bow on it's neck, He created countless creatures to be your companions and bring you love and joy!

It's a done deal. He cannot disappoint you or let you down, because it's all completed already. He filled this created world with nothing but magnificent declarations of His undying love for YOU! He wants nothing more than an intimate love relationship with you, right here in this life and even more in the next!

He is holy and those who are to be with Him must be holy too. He knew mankind would sin and fall from grace, spiritually separating us from our loving Creator who had done all this, made all this, only so He could love us and we would love Him in return. He knew we would need a way back to Him. He designed a way for us to be restored to grace so we could again be His children and fellowship with Him eternally.

He designed this plan in such a way to fully demonstrate His love for us for all time. He would give us laws to teach us good from evil so we would have the chance to choose between them. He taught us about Himself through the prophets and patriarchs of old, and later by His apostles, so that we would understand that He is holy and righteous and pure. This served to teach us how evil sin is and how we are to strive to be holy and righteous like our Heavenly Father to fellowship with Him and have happy lives.

To demonstrate to us how evil sin is, He gave the law that without the shedding of blood, the source of life, there is no forgiveness of sin. He had them sacrifice animals to repent of their sins and have them rolled ahead for one more year, but not forgiven, because the blood of animals isn't holy.

Then at the right time, He gave His only begotten Son to be born of a virgin. Jesus willingly left heaven and the Creator took on the form of the created. Fully God and fully man. He lived among us to teach us and show us God and the way back to Him, and lovingly tell us the penalty awaiting us if we don't. He was in all ways tempted as we are so that He could be the perfect High Priest for us, compassionate because He too has experienced it all like us. He lived His life without sin, and willingly gave His own life on the cross to be the perfect blood sacrifice for mankind's sins, once forever.

I've heard people speak of what a horrible god our God must be to require the brutal and bloody death of His own son. Ahhh...but look at it correctly, it is as you have read here, all a plan from before there was time to show us how evil and harmful sin is and HOW MUCH HE LOVES US! Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the greatest demonstration of love for us that is possible. The greatest gift of love there ever could be. A wooing that began before creation and continues today as He knocks at the door of your heart, an Ardent Lover pleading for you to accept His free gift of love - salvation - and ask Him to come in to your life and your heart and fellowship with Him!

Isn't that just fantastic? This is love that cannot fail you! This is TRUE love! Love that does not change when you grow old, when you fail, when you are sick or injured - love sealed with His own blood for eternity! But you say, I'm lonely here and now. I need a mate to hold and love, one that I can see and feel. I don't mean to propose that you not meet and marry here, that is God's plan for most of us and it is good. I'm just saying that in your often painful search for love, realize that you can have all that here and now with the only one who will fully and permanently love you and never reject you as long as you don't leave Him. When you have taken Jesus as your Savior and are also filled with the Holy Spirit, seeking Him with all your heart, you will find that there can be such intimacy with Him, even the ability to physically sense Him, that He can very truly be with you here, in this life as well as eternally. He is the true Lover of your soul. Happy Valentines Day!

Today's freebie is a valentine in the truest sense of the term that I gave here last year. It's all about God showing His immeasurable love for us through the gift of Jesus on the cross, His blood that bought the new covenant of grace for us in God's Word. The hearts mingling with His blood remind us that it was only love holding Him on that cross. The mourning dove in my back yard represents the precious Holy Spirit He has given to us as our Comforter and Teacher. You get a 12x12 overlay and I thought you might also like the finished jpg with a dove in it. Today's freebie is part two of a two page layout.
